How do I set up Acrobat Distiller to create a working (hi-res) PDF? First, make sure you're using Adobe's Acrobat Distiller 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8. Software updates can be found here. Encryption must be disabled. Go to Settings – Security and make sure everything is unchecked under password and permissions. Acrobat 6.0-8.0: Use the pre-built settings file named "PDF/X-1a:2001"
