Working with PowerPoint files ![]() Despite all of your begging and pleading, someone has sent you a graph or chart that's done in Microsoft PowerPoint and you have no choice but to use it in your magazine. The best option, albeit the most tedious, is to redo the graph in a vector program such as Adobe Illustrator. But to do that you'll have to have complete access to all of the data points. If time is short, how can you get that graphic into a format that works? The answer is to save it as a TIFF. First, choose File > Save As... and pick the file format of TIFF. Then click on the Options button as shown below:
Choose the highest resolution possible (600 dpi):
Click OK, then click Save. The next step is to load your TIFF into Photoshop, crop it to your liking, convert it to CMYK (Image > Mode > CMYK). Finally, go to Image > Image Size, make sure that resample image is off, and input 300 under resolution. This will make the graph as large as possible on your page. You can always scale it down in your layout program. Save away!
