How do I create working PDFs from my Quark 7.0 files? Released in 2006, Quark continues to make it relatively simple to export high-resolution PDFs directly from the application, without the need for Adobe Acrobat or Distiller. Before we begin, disable your OPI XTension by moving the file OPI.xnt from your XTensions folder to the XTensions (disabled) folder and then restart Quark. Quark 7.0 has introduced "output styles" which will allow you to download our recommended settings and use them as a preset. Step 1: Download our settings file by clicking here. You will have to extract the two files that are contained. Step 2: Import the settings by choosing Edit > Output Styles, clicking "import" and choosing the files. ULI_CMYK is for 4/C work only; ULI_CMYK+S adds support for spot colors.
Step 3: When your magazine is complete and all fonts are loaded, go to File and then choose Export > Layout as PDF:
You'll come up with the following dialogue box. Name your file with your magazine name and choose the respective preset. After you click Save, Quark will automatically export an individual PDF file for each page.
The options button may be chosen if you want to alter your settings, for example, to add registration marks. If you do add marks, be sure to set the offset to at least 9 points (.125")
